The NIHR Newcastle In Vitro Diagnostic Co-operative (MIC) seeks to develop a vibrant centre of excellence for evaluation of diagnostic tests within a national framework of Medtech and In vitro diagnostic Co-operatives (MICs) and other NIHR infrastructure.

Our overarching aim is to support better diagnostic tests for patients and the NHS within our three clinical themes:

• Ageing and long-term chronic conditions
• Infection
• Personalised and stratified medicine

As part of the unique Diagnostics North East initiative, we can support diagnostic developers with every stage of their research. The NIHR Newcastle MIC is central to the partnership between the Newcastle Hospitals and the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University. This collaboration has continued to develop and strengthen since the origins of the NIHR Newcastle MIC, formerly known as the NIHR Diagnostic Evidence Co-operative Newcastle, in 2012. The strategic partnerships we have built with the Academic Health Science Network North East North Cumbria (AHSN NENC) and LifeArc have further enriched the deliverables of the NIHR Newcastle MIC.
